Well but least in these times of gloom and doom of recession at least Whitby and surrounding areas is staying strong. According to the figures released by the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, which runs from Pickering to Whitby, have revealed that the advent of the so-called "staycation" has helped boost visitor numbers to 350,000 during last year.

In 1989 I almost bought a gorgeous old house on The Royal Crescent Whitby, but unfortunately I was out bid at the last moment and I did not get it! I have always regretted it because I was going to run a guest house and live in my favourite place Whitby. I ended up staying in my birth place Bradford, not quite as nice !
